Prisoner
"Prisoner of Violence"
Enter Warden.
Warden: Seeing the violent state this world is in, I and three other people are going to talk to you about being a prisoner of violence, and the different parts of violence and how they can be connected to the other parts. The parts are mental, physical and gun violence. Would the three
people come out?
Enter Violence, Shaman and Death.
Violence: What can we do for you?
Warden: What is your opinion on violence?
Violence: Throughout history we have seen violence whether it a war for a cause or attacking a person that is different. I'll always be a part of the human race until everybody can live in peace and there won't be any more war.
Shaman: Physical and gun violence basically mean the same thing except if a person uses physical violence than that person using anything that causes physical damage. Mental violence is an internal damage that makes people do something that they would not normally do.
Death: I'll always be a part of the human race even if you get rid of violence. I will still have power over the people to make sure they're human, and to make sure the population doesn't get too overcrowded.
Shaman: History teaches us the good and the bad things that shape this world. War and other kinds of violence are a part of the bad things that happen. Sept. 11th, 2001 was another of the bad things. It also taught us safety can be taken from us. George Bush, our President, sent troops to Iraq because Al Qaida and anybody who is allied with Al Qaida were responsible for crashing planes into the World Trade Center and the Pentagon. This war against Iraq will go on until the President pulls our troops out of Iraq. Violence is part of our history.
Warden: Shaman, why did you choose that as your name?
Shaman: I represent the power of people to end this never-ending conflict. So this name is perfect for me.
Warden: We heard about the high school shootings; which part of violence does that go into?
Death: All three. The bullies at school try to show power by picking on other students, then if a student gets picked on too much that student is more likely to bring a gun to school. The second part of that equation is when that student starts firing on other students or teachers, which
goes into gun and physical violence.
Violence: If someone is close to a student during the shooting then they cry because they lost someone very close to them.
Warden: Which side of violence are you on?
Violence: The side of violence is people who think violence is necessary and the other side is people who use peaceful ways of solving problems instead of using violence to solve problems. I'm on the side of people who use violence to solve any problem. There are also people who, if they can't find a peaceful way to solve problems, then they use violence only as a last resort.
Death: I'm on the side of people who only use violence.
Shaman: I always have a peaceful view on how to solve problems. Each of the parts of violence is a way that we have of not facing the harsh things that come to us. Harsh and good things will always come to us until we die. So people have to make a decision how they are going to handle things.
Warden: We were just talking about people who either use their brain or their fists. So which side are you on?
Warden: A part of our Constitution is the right to bear arms. What do you think of that part of the Constitution?
Violence: It gives a person the right to buy a gun to protect their family. So a gun can either protect your family or not protect them; it all depends on how you use it.
Death: If an intruder is in your house one of your options is to get your gun to protect your family, if you can prove that your family is in mortal danger. If the intruder is a member of your family then what will happen if you shoot the intruder not knowing who you're shooting? Then you have to deal with those circumstances.
Shaman: Kids, after watching too much violence on TV, if they see their dad's gun they want to play with it not knowing what will happen. So if you want your kids not to play with guns then put your gun somewhere the kids can't get it. Then after they get older teach them what to expect when using a gun.
Violence: What about the people who are protesting this war?
Death: Another part of our Constitution is freedom of speech. So these protesters fall under freedom of speech. People who think our President is doing the right thing by sending the troops into Iraq, think that the protesters shouldn't be protesting this war.
Warden: What do you think of changes and being a prisoner of violence?
Warden: I'm the Warden of this Prison of Violence.
Violence: People's lives change in the aftermath of violence. People who don't accept changes don't want their lives to change. Being a prisoner of violence is when we're always stuck inside of Warden's prison where violence is all around us.
Shaman: People's lives happen on this planet where there is violence all around us, so does that mean we're living inside of a prison without we knowing about it? If we're stuck in the prison then how do we break free of this never ending prison?
Death: If we want to change the world then it start with a single step.
Warden: What do you think of violence against people who are different from you?
Violence: We have different people and some of them don't want to take the time to get to know people who are different. Then there are people who want to be friends with people who are different from them.
Warden: What is your opinion on TV?
Violence: Here is my opinion on TV. I want everybody in the audience to close their eyes. While your eyes are closed, I'm going to take you back in time to when TV wasn't around and people's lives were more rewarding because they read more, spent more time talking to family and friends, and spend time enjoying nature in parks. Now I'm going to take you forward in time to around 1950 when TV was around and people's lives were less rewarding because they read less, spent less time talking to family and friends, and spent less time in parks. Then after some more time had passed, people watched more TV so that reading, talking to family and friends, and spending time in parks became a thing of the past. If we can have our kids watch less TV with violence in it, then that will lower the number of shootings because our kids will not be affected by watching the violence on TV. When you open your eyes, see if you want your life be more rewarding or less.
Shaman: That is also true with movies with violence in them. Family movies or kids' movies are types of movies which are more suitable for kids because they don't have violence in them. Violence on TV or movies shows some very graphic images. The effect is just like watching very graphic images in real life.
Death: Try talking to people who are different to see what will happen. You might become friends with them or you might still not want to be their friends. It's all up to you to decide what you're going to do with your life.
Warden: I hope now you will understand violence better and how it affects us.
